Help guide

Everything you need to get the most out of Post Go for LinkedIn and Instagram, from your first post to tracking what works. The more specific you are about your business, the better your posts will be.

Quick start

1

Set up your account

Tell us your business, what it does and where you operate. One account covers both LinkedIn and Instagram.

2

Pick a channel and create

Use the LinkedIn / Instagram switch in the sidebar. LinkedIn: search trends, pick an angle and add an image. Instagram: scan live trends or use your own idea, and get a ready-to-film post.

3

Add your results

After you post, type in the numbers from LinkedIn or Instagram. We show which kinds of post work best for you.

Post Go writes and illustrates your posts, but you publish them on LinkedIn and Instagram yourself. We don't post for you, so you stay in control of everything that goes out under your name.

LinkedIn and Instagram, one account

Every account can create content for LinkedIn and for Instagram. Use the LinkedIn / Instagram switch at the top of the sidebar to change channel, and the menu changes with it. One plan covers both channels.

  • Shared by both channels: your business name, what the business does, where it operates, your website, and your plan and billing. Edit these once under Company profile.
  • Only for LinkedIn: target audience, tone of voice, example posts, logo and brand pack, visual brand, photo library, post types, content strategy and results.
  • Only for Instagram: your niche, handle, content goals, how you film, the accounts we track, content strategy and results. Set these in Instagram settings.
  • The two channels are kept separate. A LinkedIn strategy never changes your Instagram content, and the other way round.

LinkedIn: create a post, step by step

Open Create a post in the sidebar. There are five short steps, shown along the top so you always know where you are.

  1. 1

    Pick a trend

Click Search current trends. We search the live web for developments that matter to your audience and region, and skip anything you've already posted about. It usually takes up to a minute, so please don't refresh. You get three options, each with a short summary and why it fits you. Choose Write about this on the one you have most to say about.

  2. 2

    Pick an angle

We write two different takes on your chosen trend. Read both and choose the one you prefer.

  3. 3

    Make it ours

Anyone in your industry can post about the same trend. This step connects it to what your business does. Add your take if you like, such as an opinion or a lesson from experience, then click Make it ours. You can also skip this step. Adding your website in Company profile makes it sharper.

  4. 4

    Add a visual

Optional. Pick a style and we create image options for you, or choose one of your own photos. See Images and photos.

  5. 5

    Ready

Your post is saved in your library. Edit the text if you like, copy it, and paste it into LinkedIn. Then click I've posted this on LinkedIn so we can track it.

LinkedIn: your posts and trends searched

  • Posts lists everything we've written for you. Filter by Ready to post, Posted or From my plan, by post type, or search the text.
  • Open a post to edit it, change its image, or ask for a rewrite: type what you want changed, such as “make it shorter”, and click Rewrite with this feedback.
  • Your edits teach us your style. The more you edit, the less you'll need to edit next time.
  • Trends searched shows every trend search we've run for you. Trends you've already written about are marked, and we don't suggest them again.

LinkedIn: content strategy

If you want to post regularly, set up a plan from Content strategy in the sidebar. Choose how many posts a week and which kinds of post you want.

📆 Week by week

Each week, run a trend search and we write that week's posts. Simple, and always current.

🗺️ Monthly strategy

We plan four weeks of themes and post types up front. Each week you still run a fresh trend search to fill in the posts.

  • Already have a strategy? Choose Start from my own strategy and upload it as a PDF. We read it, pre-fill your posts per week and mix, and follow it when writing. You can edit the text we take from it at any time.
  • Each week, click Run this week's trends. We search the live web and show you the topics we found. Choose a topic for each post, and an angle if you have a view (practical, story-led or opinion), then we write the posts. Prefer not to choose? Click Skip the choices and let us write it all. The posts appear in Posts under From my plan.
  • Download PDF report (on the plan page) gives you a client-ready PDF of the strategy, the plan and the posts, to present or share. Any single post also has a Download client report (PDF) button on its page, so you can get a post approved before you publish it.
  • Refresh this strategy (on the plan page) suggests updates based on the results you've entered. You see what would change and why, and nothing is saved until you accept.

LinkedIn: images and photos

At step 4, or from any post, you can add an image in two ways: generate one, or use one of your own photos.

Generated images

  • Choose a visual style and click Generate image options. We create two options in about 30 seconds. The styles are: Photographic, 3D animated, Cartoon, Caricature, Animated avatar, Stylised illustration, Flat illustration, Bold & graphic, Minimal & corporate and Hand-drawn.
  • Prefer to steer? Click Show me ideas first to see three different ideas for the post and pick one. You can also type Anything you want to see, for example “our team on the shop floor, no people”.
  • Tick Add my logo to the images to put your logo on them (add it first under Company profile, Logo & brand pack).
  • Generated images are made by AI, so look closely before you post and regenerate if something looks off.

Your own photos

  • Add photos of your team, premises, products or work in Photo library. They're private to your account. We describe each one automatically, and you can edit the description. iPhone photos work too.
  • Use a photo as it is on a post, and we suggest the best matches for each post. Or tick Base it on my own photos (up to two) so a generated image is set in your real place with your real equipment.
  • Your logo is added to generated images only, not to your own photos.

LinkedIn: tracking results

We can't connect to LinkedIn, so you type in the numbers LinkedIn shows for each post. It takes about a minute per post, and it's how we show you what works.

  1. 1

    Add the numbers

On a post, or in Performance, Enter numbers, fill in impressions, clicks, reactions, comments and reposts from the post's analytics in LinkedIn. Leads is optional.

  2. 2

    Update them later

Numbers keep growing after you post. Add new numbers on a later date and we keep each one, so you can see how a post develops. Saving again on the same date updates that entry.

  3. 3

    See what works

Performance shows engagement and reach by post type, a weekly trend, and your top posts. Engagement rate is clicks, reactions, comments and reposts, divided by impressions. Post types with fewer than three posts are marked early, because the result isn't reliable yet.

Older posts may show “Type not set”. Open the post and choose its type so it counts in the by-type charts.

Instagram: create a post, step by step

Switch to Instagram in the sidebar. Instagram posts are built from live Instagram data: we look at what is actually performing in your niche right now and turn it into a ready-to-film post.

  1. 1

    Set up Instagram

The first time, fill in a short form: your niche, handle, content goals, what you want to create and how you film. Your company details are already saved. You can change these later in Instagram settings.

  2. 2

    Start creating a post

Open Create a post and choose a single video, a series, or short clips. Already have an idea? Type it in and we search what is trending around it, then suggest a few ways to make it. Or choose Search live trends in my niche to ignore the idea and see what is hot right now. In a hurry? Choose Skip the research to go straight to the finished post. Leave the idea blank and we suggest ideas for you.

  3. 3

    Find accounts

We search Instagram for accounts doing well in your niche, ranked by real engagement. Add any handles you want included, then untick any you don't want tracked. This takes a minute or two, so please keep the page open.

  4. 4

    Pick a direction

We read the latest posts from those accounts and search the web for current trends, then suggest three directions (or an episode plan for a series). Pick the one you like, or ignore them and set the trend yourself.

  5. 5

    Get your post

You get the hook, a shot-by-shot script, voiceover, video description, caption, hashtags, why it works right now, and what you need to film it. Copy any part, or download the post brief as a PDF to hand to a client or your team. It takes a few minutes, and you can leave the page: the finished post is saved to Posts.

  6. 6

    Refine it by chat

Beside your post is a chat. Ask for changes (“make the hook punchier”, “shorten it to 15 seconds”, “end with a question”) or talk ideas through, and the post updates and saves as you go. Not happy with a change? Click Undo last change.

  • Posts lists everything we've created for Instagram. Trends searched keeps every scan so you can see how your niche is moving.
  • Make sure the Instagram handles you type are real. A handle that doesn't exist returns nothing, which can look like a fault.

Instagram: content strategy and results

Content strategy

  • Upload the strategy you already have (PDF, Word or text, up to 4MB) in Content strategy. We read it, pull out your pillars and objectives, and tell you what's strong, what's missing and what to try.
  • Or build one from scratch, or build a weekly or monthly plan on top of the one you uploaded. You see exactly what we changed, and why.
  • Plan a week, step by step. Each planned post in Your week (or Your month) says what the post is for: its goal, pillar and format. Click Find ideas for this week and we search live trends and give you two ideas for each post. Pick the one you prefer (and an angle if you like), then click Write my posts. The posts are saved to your Posts library, and you can download a week report to hand to a client.
  • The active strategy guides every scan and post we create. Older versions are kept, and you can make any of them active again. Content strategy is part of the full account.

Tracking results

  • We can't connect to Instagram, so you type in the numbers from Instagram Insights. Open a post in Posts, set when you posted it, then log views, likes, comments, saves and shares.
  • Log again on later dates to see how a post grows. Performance then shows which formats, goals and types of post work best. Engagement rate is likes, comments, saves and shares as a percentage of views.

Make your posts sound like you

This section is about your LinkedIn content. (Your business name, what you do, region and website are shared with Instagram, which has its own settings.) Everything below feeds directly into what we research and write, with no hidden step where a person tidies things up. Vague answers produce vague posts, and specific answers produce specific posts. You can change any of these at any time in Company profile.

What does your business do?

Find it: Company profile › Your business

This is the biggest factor in whether your trends are actually relevant. We use it to decide what to search for, so a broad answer gets broad, generic topics.

Too vague

Construction

Specific

Project management software for mid-size UK commercial contractors delivering £2m-£20m fit-out and refurbishment projects

Name what you actually do, who you do it for, and what size or type of client, not just the category.

Where do you operate?

Find it: Company profile › Your business

Without this, research has no reason to prefer your region's news over anywhere else's, and tends to default to whichever region has the most content online, which is usually the US.

Too vague

Global

Specific

UK-wide, or Sydney and NSW, or United States (California and Texas)

Name the actual places you do business, as specifically as makes sense.

Target audience

Find it: Company profile › Your business

Shapes the angle a topic is written from. The same news story lands differently for an owner-operator than for a corporate buyer.

Too vague

Businesses

Specific

Operations directors at 20-200 person manufacturing firms in the UK

Picture the actual person reading the post. What's their job title? What size company? Where?

Your website

Find it: Company profile › Your website

We read it to learn which services you sell, so posts about your offers are accurate and trends are connected to what you really do.

Add your address and click scan. Re-scan if your services change.

Tone of voice

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Voice & style, or the card on your Overview page

Controls how the post sounds: word choice, formality, energy. Without it, you get a safe, generic professional voice.

Too vague

Professional

Specific

Warm, plain-English, reassuring. No jargon. Talks to the reader like a knowledgeable friend, not a corporate brand.

A contrast helps ('confident but never salesy', 'direct, not chatty') more than a single adjective.

A post you like

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Voice & style, or the card on your Overview page

We match the style and rhythm of this example, such as sentence length, structure, and how it opens and closes, but not the topic.

Too vague

(leaving it blank)

Specific

A real LinkedIn post, yours or one you admire, pasted in full including the hashtags

Pick a post because of how it's written, not what it's about. The topic will always be your own.

Anything you want mentioned when it fits

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Your business

This isn't a permanent tagline. It's checked against each topic and only worked in when it's a genuine fit. Keep it current, not evergreen.

Too vague

We offer great service

Specific

"20% off new client onboarding this quarter" or "we just launched a fixed-fee planning permission service"

Think of it as what you'd tell a colleague to mention if the moment came up naturally in conversation, not a slogan.

Logo and brand pack

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Logo & brand pack

Upload your logo, and your brand guidelines as a PDF. We read the PDF into editable rules for writing style and imagery, and you can add your own notes. Every post and image then follows them.

Check the rules we take from your PDF and edit anything that isn't right.

Brand colours and imagery notes

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Visual brand

Used whenever a post includes an image. Vague style guidance produces generic-looking AI images.

Too vague

Nice and modern

Specific

"Deep navy blue and teal" for colours, and "logo is a green leaf mark, avoid stock-photo-style people" for notes

Your default style is only a starting point. You choose again, with options to compare, each time you add an image.

Types of posts you want

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Preferences

Trend research uses this to aim for a mix, rather than defaulting to the same kind of post every time. Leave it empty to get a mix of everything.

Too vague

(ticking everything, or nothing, and never revisiting it)

Specific

Ticking 2-3 that genuinely fit how you want to show up, for example knowledge insights, tips and the occasional promotion

This is a preference, not a rule. A genuinely current, relevant topic always wins over forcing a type that doesn't fit.

How should we pick your topic?

Optional

Find it: Company profile › Preferences

A genuine trade-off, not a right answer.

"Let me choose from 3 options" (the default) gives you a say in every post, and is worth it while you're finding your voice. "Pick the best one for me" skips the choice and writes about the strongest trend automatically, which is faster once you trust the output.

Working with several accounts

  • An account is one business, LinkedIn page or Instagram account. Agencies create one per client, and each account has both channels. Click the account name at the top of the sidebar to switch or choose Add another account.
  • Each account has its own profile, voice, brand pack, photos, strategy, posts and results. Nothing is shared between them, so a client's information never appears in another's.
  • You can set up as many accounts as you need on one login. Each account is billed separately, and the free trial is shared across the whole login.
  • Deleting an account: go to Company profile, then Delete account. You can delete one account, or your login and all your accounts. It needs your password, and it permanently removes everything saved: profile, posts, plans, results, photos, logo, brand pack, strategy and generated images. It can't be undone, and any paid subscription must be cancelled first.

Plan and billing

  • Your first post is free, with no card needed. It covers one single post for your login, on either LinkedIn or Instagram. Further posts, and series, plans and content strategy, need the full account.
  • The full account is £50 a month, per account, and covers both LinkedIn and Instagram: a flat price, VAT included. Upgrade from Plan & billing in the menu, or the purple card in the sidebar. You pay securely through Stripe, and the account switches on automatically within seconds.
  • Cancel or change your card any time in Plan & billing, with Manage billing or cancel. If you cancel, you keep full access until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • If a payment fails, the account pauses and we email you. Update your card in Plan & billing and it switches straight back on. Your posts and settings are always kept safe.
  • You'll get an email receipt for every payment. Each account is billed separately, so you can stop one without affecting the others.
  • When you sign up, we email you a 6-digit code to confirm your address. If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, or ask for a new one on the same screen.

Troubleshooting

The trend search is taking a long time+

It can take up to a minute or two because we search the live web. Please wait and don't refresh. If you get an error, wait a moment and try again. If it keeps happening, contact us.

My posts don't sound like me+

Add your tone of voice and a post you like (Company profile, or the card on your Overview), upload your brand pack, and use the Your take box in Make it ours. Then edit posts you don't like. We learn from every edit.

The trends feel generic or from the wrong place+

Make 'What does your business do?' and 'Where do you operate?' more specific, and add your website. See the examples under Sound like you.

The images look generic or off+

Add brand colours and imagery notes, try Show me ideas first, base the image on your own photos, or regenerate. AI images can contain small mistakes, so check them before posting.

I forgot my password+

On the log-in page, click Forgot password and follow the email. If it doesn't arrive, contact us. You can also change your password in Company profile, under Security.

The Instagram scan is taking a long time+

It uses live Instagram data, so finding accounts can take a couple of minutes and a full post a few more. You can leave the page: finished results are saved to Posts and Trends searched. If it fails, wait a moment and try again.

Instagram found no accounts or posts+

Check the handles you typed are real and spelled correctly, and that your niche is specific enough (see Instagram settings). Try again, or leave the accounts blank and we'll search the niche for you.

Can you post to LinkedIn or Instagram for me?+

Not yet. Copy the post (and download the image or PDF), publish it yourself, then mark it as posted here and add the numbers later.
